First up, you should have a tank, or gerbilairium. If you're getting just one gerbil or two, you must have a 5 gallon tank atleast.
They must have a 7" wheel, not mesh. "why not a mesh one?", you ask? Well, bumblefoot is the reason why. look up some sites that will explain bumblefoot in poultry, guinea pigs, and possibly hamsters and gerbils. Try getting a
silent spinner, 20 $, and pretty much any
solid spinner thats enclosed on the bottom,
their tails don't get stuck.

Pick out a ciramic or glass food bowl, because gerbils are quite the chewers. My gerbils Patches and Teriyaki like to burrow more than chew, so I buy them some Timothy Hay and store in dry place. Next up, bedding. Choose Aspen, White Fir, or good quality paper bedding brands such as Planet Petco, Katee,
and others for your gerbils bedding. Fill about half the cage with bedding, to see if their the kind that like to burrow. Choosing a water bottle can be a little tough, but here's two quick ways to do this; there's a Katee glass bottle, and there's the normal plastic water bottle (with a metal nozzle) and purchase seprately a metal case.

I suggest you follow my schedule, in another post. Make sure to buy a shelter for your gerbil too, just because. Buy wooden chews if your gerbil isn't a burrower. Don't keep your gerbil's
cage in direct sunlight; move it away or shading it is a good idea.
